DEVIL'S GLEN SKI PATROL
Who are we?
The Devil’s Glen Ski Patrol (DGSP) is a dedicated and effective team of people with a goal to promote safe skiing and snowboarding and to provide assistance to those injured on the hill. The DGSP is part of a national organization, The Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) that operates throughout Canada at many resorts. The DGSP has been around the Glen since the beginning of the club’s history and many of the club’s members (and children and grandchildren!) have been helped by the Patrol over the years.
We are easily recognizable – just look for our yellow and blue jackets with our ski patrol crest on the hill! We’re the ones opening and closing the hills at the Glen every day, providing support to races, marking trails that are unsafe and helping those in need – be it on the hill or in the parking lot!
How do I become a patroller?
To become a Ski Patroller, an individual needs to pass a rigid set of examinations on all aspects of patrolling, including ski safety, first aid (one of the best courses in Canada), procedures and programs. Courses and examinations normally take place in the fall prior to the ski season and every patroller must re-certify every year to be in good standing.
Patrollers come from all walks of life – Doctors, Lawyers, Presidents, Firefighters, Construction Engineers, Social Workers, etc. All share a love of skiing and helping people – through interaction with people both at the Glen and throughout Canada.
What are the benefits of being a Devil’s Glen Ski Patroller?
As members of the Canadian Ski Patrol System, all patrollers have access to:
- Ski at any CSPS patrolled resort in Canada
- Free training including advanced first-aid, CPR and on-hill accident management
- A national not-for-profit organization in which to grow as a volunteer (many ski patrollers have spent more than 30 years in various occupations within the CSPS without ever getting bored) … to name just a few.
Due to the great relationship that the Patrol has with the club, there are many benefits that patrollers receive only at the Glen. These include:
- Spousal Memberships
- Access to the club’s day-care and instructional programs
- Ability to sign-in guests
How do I join?
In order to join the patrol you must register with the Ski Patrol in the early fall (right after Labour Day) and begin to take the first-aid course. To find out more about the process for patrolling at the Glen, please contact Jeff Beck at jeffandnat@sympatico.ca or come and visit the Patrol Hut right across from the chalet any time during the season.
How do I get more information about Ski Patrolling or the CSPS?
Check out the Central Zone website at for all the latest info on the CSPS!
